U20 AFCON: Olympic Medalist, Ex-Eagles Coach Throw Weight Behind Flying Eagles To Pick World Cup Ticket

Former Super Eagles Coach, James Peters and silver medalist at Beijing Olympics, Femi Ajilore have backed the Nigeria U20 team to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Flying Eagles were housed in a 'Group of Death' including African power-house football nations; Egypt, Morocco and South Africa.

In a separate interviews with www.bsnsports.com.ng on Friday in Abuja, James Peters popularly known as Jay Pee is confident that Flying Eagles will not only qualify from the group but also go ahead and pick one of the four world cup tickets at the competition.

"The world knows what Nigeria has in stock when it comes to youth football. We are dominant at the U17 and U20 not only in Africa but also at the world stage. Though, the North Africans have improved but I can vividly remember in those days, we used to beat them and the worst we got then is playing draw even at their back yard. If all hands are on deck, the NFF does what they are supposed to do, the coach does his home work well by knowing the tactical prowess of his opponents and the players are in the right frame of mind, then, we can sit back and expect positive results.

In the same vein, ex-international, Femi Ajilore expressed his optimism in the Flying Eagles saying they are good to go all the way to the final.

"We saw them at the WAFU B championship where they emerged champions. They improved as the competition grew and at the end, they conquered all opponents to win the regional competition. I saw them as potential finalists at the 2025 U20 African Nations Cup."

The 2025 U20 AFCON which will be held in Cote D'Ivoire will comemnce from 26th April to 18th May, 2025 with 12 participants.

The four semi-finalists will qualify as the CAF representatives for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
