U20 AFCON: Senegal FF File Defamation Charges Against Egypt
Sampson Adedeji
The Egyptian coaches led by goalkeeper trainer Ehab Galal and the local press continue accused some countries of using overaged players in the 2023 U20 African Nations Cup, BSNSports.com.ng has gathered.
The Young Pharaohs crashed out of the competition after the group stage, securing just a point from three matches and also failed to score.
Galal raised issues about overage players in the Nigerian and Senegalese teams.
“Most African teams have players who are over the age required to be able to play this competition. These teams have many players with fake ages. The Senegal goalkeeper, for example, looks older, as well as Nigeria's number 3 player who looks old, and other players from Nigeria,†he told Egyptian television.
And the allegation is gradually gathering momentum as the local press seems to have taken the matter up.
Meanwhile, the Senegalese Federation has decided to file a complaint against the Federation of Egypt for defamation,†he said. These remarks do not logically pass, especially since they are unfounded.
The question that now arises is whether Egypt can prove its words, another thing, will the Confederation of African Football take note of these accusations? Sanctions must fall if such allegations are confirmed, but also, Egypt would perhaps risk sanctions in the contrary case.
The CAF underage competition has entered the Quarterfinal stage.
