Nigeria’s Miracle Ezechukwu has been left devastated after a controversial lane infringement ruling denied her a place in the women’s 200m final at the World U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Ezechukwu had produced one of the standout performances of the semifinal round, clocking an impressive personal best of 22.61 seconds to finish second in her heat and secure what appeared to be a place in the final.
However, her celebrations were cut short after race officials disqualified the Nigerian teenager for a lane infringement.
The decision sparked disappointment in the Nigerian camp, with Ezechukwu losing the opportunity to compete for a medal despite her impressive performance on the track.
Nigeria subsequently lodged a protest seeking to overturn the disqualification and have Ezechukwu reinstated for the final.
However, the appeal was rejected by the officials, bringing the 200m campaign of the promising Nigerian sprinter to a controversial end.
Ezechukwu’s 22.61s run remains a new personal best and underlines her emergence as one of Nigeria’s brightest young sprint talents, despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding her exit from the competition.
