U20 World Cup: Flying Eagles Edge Dominican Republic In Group Opener

Nigeria's Flying Eagles started their campaign in the FIFA U20 World Cup on a winning note with a 2-1 victory over the debutant Dominican Republic, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Expectedly, the Nigerian side dominated the game but it was the Dominican Republic that netted the opening goal in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot 

Jude Sunday who was the life wire of the Nigerian side forced defender De Pena into an own goal in the 31st minute as the half ended in a stalemate.



The second half resumed with Nigeria still dominating the game, Emmanuel Umeh thought he has netted the second goal for Nigeria in the 67th minute but it was ruled offside.



Nigeria finally got the winning goal in the 70th minute after Samson Lawali benefited from the clumsy defending of the Dominican Republic to give Nigeria a 2-1 win.



Nigeria will face Italy in the second group match while the Dominican Republic will confront Brazil.
