U20 World Cup: Flying Eagles Take On Columbia In Friendly Game
By Niyi Busari
Flying Eagles of Nigeria will trade tackles with Columbia U20 national team on Tuesday 16th May, in preparation ahead of their 2023 FIFA World Cup group opener against Dominican Republic, BSNSports.com.ng can exclusively report.
BSN Sports reports that Nigeria are drawn in group D with Dominican Republic Italy and Brazil where only the two top teams progress to the knock-out stage. The international friendly game is necessary to further intensify their preparations particularly when they will face a similar South American team (Brazil).
Meanwhile, the 2015 African champions will lock horns with a local football club in Argentina before next Tuesday's international friendly game against Columbia.
This was revealed to BSN Sports in an exclusive interview with one of the officials of the team.
He said, We are playing Colombia U20 on 16th this month. He told BSN Sport.
He added, "We want to play a local team here in Argentina before Colombia match but i don't know the team yet.
The Colombians, who hosted the South American championships from which four teams qualified for the FIFA U-20 World Cup – scheduled from 20 May to 11 June – did not just succeed in their aim to qualify for the showpiece event, but proved themselves to be a team with heart, balance and talent.
Columbia have recorded 11 appearances since 1985 at the FIFA U20 world cup with the best result as Third Best team in 2003. They are also three times South American Youth champions.
Nigeria on their part have won the African U20 Championships seven times and have record second placed in 1989 and 2005.
