UCL: Osimhen Nets Hat-Trick as Galatasaray Beat Ajax, Becomes Champions League’s Leading Scorer
By Niyi Busari
Victor Osimhen delivered a sensational performance on Wednesday night, scoring all three goals as Galatasaray cruised to a 3–0 victory over Ajax at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in their UEFA Champions League Group Stage encounter, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The 26-year-old Nigerian striker broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, ghosting behind the Ajax defence to head home a perfectly floated cross from Leroy Sané.
Osimhen then showed composure from the spot, converting two penalties in the space of ten minutes to complete his first-ever Champions League hat-trick and seal a memorable night for the Turkish champions.
The treble takes Osimhen’s tally to six goals in the competition this season, propelling him to the top of the Champions League goalscoring chart, one ahead of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé (five each).
Having scored once against Liverpool and twice against Bodø/Glimt in earlier matches, Osimhen has now found the net in three consecutive Champions League games.
The feat also saw the Super Eagles forward set a new record as the highest-scoring Nigerian in UEFA club competitions, surpassing Obafemi Martins’ previous mark of 23 goals. Osimhen’s tally now stands at 25 goals across all European tournaments.
