UCL: Samuel Chukwueze Sends Villarreal To Semifinal

By Oluwayemi Omolagba

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze was the hero on the night as Villarreal piped Bayern Munich to the semifinal spot of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League season, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Villarreal entered the second leg played at the Allianz Arena with a 1-0 advantage, a scoreline deemed too slim by many football fans knowing how deadly Bayern can be playing in front of their fans but the Yellow Submarines were able to hold their own in the first 45 minutes forcing Bayern to a goalless first half despite having numerous chances to score.

At the start of the second half, Bayern took off from where they ended the first firing from different angles and their resilience soon paid off after Robert Lewandowski gave them the lead in the 52nd minute to put the game level (1-1) on aggregate.

Samuel Chukwueze who started the game from the bench was then introduced for Arnaut Danjuma in the 84th minute and his introduction was spot on after he netted the equalizer for Villarreal minutes later to prevent the game from extending into an extra time.

With the game ending in a 1-1 draw on the evening, Villarreal progressed to the semifinal on a 2-1 aggregate score all thanks to Samuel Chukwueze's late second half goal.

The Yellow Submarines will now play the winner between Liverpool and Benfica in the semifinal.
