Uganda have withdrawn their U23 national team from the 2026 Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifiers due to a lack of funds, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Uganda U23 side were scheduled to face Ethiopia in the qualifying round, with the fixtures expected to take place between September 20 and October 6, 2026.

However, Uganda have opted out of the competition after reportedly being unable to secure the financial resources required to facilitate the team’s participation.

The withdrawal means Ethiopia will no longer face Uganda as originally scheduled, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) expected to provide further clarification on the implications for the qualification process.

Uganda’s decision highlights the financial challenges facing several African football federations in their efforts to participate in continental competitions.
