Ugandan President Commissions Hoima City Stadium Ahead Of AFCON 2027

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has officially commissioned the Hoima City Stadium, marking a significant milestone in the country’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania, BSNSports.com.ng reports

The commissioning ceremony was held in Hoima City, with the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, in attendance.

 The new facility is expected to play a central role in Uganda’s hosting responsibilities for the continental showpiece.

The 20,000-capacity stadium was completed in approximately 13 months and boasts a FIFA-rated five-star hybrid grass pitch. 

In addition to the main bowl, the complex includes an indoor arena, a swimming pool, and a range of modern sports and auxiliary facilities designed to meet international standards.

President Museveni described the stadium as a major investment in sports development and national infrastructure, noting that it underscores Uganda’s commitment to delivering a successful AFCON 2027.

Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania were jointly awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, becoming the first East African nations to stage the tournament together. 

The completion of Hoima City Stadium is seen as a major boost to Uganda’s readiness and broader ambition to position itself as a leading destination for major international sporting events.
