Unity Cup 2025: Ghana To Miss Key Black Stars In Nigeria Showdown

Ghana's Black Stars will be without several key players when they take on arch-rivals Nigeria in the Unity Cup 2025 semi-final in London, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Randy Abbey, confirmed the development, citing injuries and club obligations as the main reasons for the absences.

The highly anticipated clash is scheduled for May 28, with the winner set to face either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago in the final on May 31 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Speaking to 3Sports (via Joy Online), Abbey explained the challenges facing the Ghanaian side.

“There are quite a number of players who are injured,” he said.

 “Some are involved in European qualification matches, so their clubs won’t release them. It’s important to note this tournament falls outside the FIFA international window.”

He further noted that players whose leagues are still ongoing and who are in contention for club honors may also be unavailable.

The Unity Cup serves as a key tune-up for both Ghana and Nigeria ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches scheduled for September.
