Unity Cup 2025: Nigeria Battle Ghana, Jamaica, Trinidad At Brentford Stadium

The final signatures, seals, and agreements were completed on Wednesday for this year’s Unity Cup Invitational Tournament, which will feature teams from Nigeria, Jamaica, Ghana, and Trinidad & Tobago, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

The tournament is set to take place at the 17,250-capacity Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, West London, during the last days of May 2025.

Rotimi Pedro of AfroSport expressed his excitement: “We are proud to bring back the Unity Cup. It has been a long journey to revive this important community event, and we are thrilled that fans of African and Caribbean football will once again enjoy top-tier international matches at Unity Cup 2025. We are grateful to Brentford FC for hosting us at the Gtech Community Stadium and look forward to what remains a significant cultural moment for many who attended previous Unity Cup tournaments. Unity Cup 2025 will be a week-long celebration of our interconnected cultures through food, music, and comedy, all centered around elite footballing talent from our home nations.”

The tournament will kick off with the first semi-final on Tuesday, May 27, where Trinidad & Tobago will face Jamaica in the inaugural ‘Trini-Jam’ match on UK soil.

The following day, Nigeria, three-time African champions, will battle Ghana, four-time African champions, in the second semi-final, which promises to bring all the excitement of their 74-year rivalry.

All four teams will return on Saturday, May 31, for the grand finale.

The losers of the semi-final matches will compete in the third-place game, followed by the final to determine the champions of Unity Cup 2025.

Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), commented: “We joined the tournament because it offers a vital opportunity for our team to bond ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September. The Unity Cup has a special history, and the Super Eagles have always been part of that journey.”

Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Chelle added, “We are looking forward to participating in the Unity Cup as it will allow us to test a few new players in different roles, helping us strengthen our squad before the upcoming matches in September and October.”

Team captain William Troost-Ekong remarked, “This tournament is a great opportunity for us to reunite and strategize for the World Cup qualifying games.”

Marcus Gayle, Brentford FC ambassador and former Jamaican international, shared his enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to welcome the Unity Cup back and to host it here at the Gtech Community Stadium. This tournament will not only showcase elite football talent from Africa and the Caribbean but also celebrate the deep cultural and sporting ties between these regions.
