University of Ibadan Are 2024 Showtyme Summer Basketball Champions

The ancient city of Ibadan witnessed an electrifying conclusion to the 4th edition of the Showtyme Summer Slam, as University of Ibadan's basketball team emerged victorious, defeating last year's runners-up, Showtyme Hoopers, 39-28 in a heart-stopping final match.

The Lekan Salami Sports Complex was abuzz with excitement as basketball enthusiasts gathered to witness the thrilling finale. University of Ibadan's path to the championship was paved with a convincing 48-31 win over Polytechnic Ibadan, while Showtyme Hoopers secured their spot in the finals with a 39-33 triumph over Hoops Dream.

In a showcase of female finesse, Showtyme Angels outshone Rising Stars 31-28 in the ladies' final, claiming the championship title.

The brainchild behind the Showtyme Summer Slam, Shola Durojaye, revealed the driving force behind this annual extravaganza: "The Summer Slam which is in its 4th year was introduced to create a platform for basketball players in Oyo state to showcase their talents and get busy. Some 30 years ago when we were kids playing basketball at the Adamasingba Basketball court we lacked tournaments. We hardly had basketball events in a whole year and this affected our basketball development a lot. Now that most of us are retired and trying to give back to the society that gave us so much is the reason why we are having an annual Summer Slam to engage players in our dear state. We've been consistent with the annual event because we are geared at making a difference."

The Showtyme Summer Slam has solidified its position as a premier basketball event, fostering a community that celebrates skill, dedication, and sportsmanship. As the curtains closed on this year's edition, fans are already eagerly anticipating next year's thrilling competition.
