Sampson Adedeji
Ivory Coast has taken a major step forward in football officiating after receiving FIFA's preliminary implementation certificate for the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The West African nation recently received the necessary VAR equipment, paving the way for its introduction in the Ivorian top-flight league from the 2026/27 season.
As part of the implementation process, the system will undergo a live test during the Ivory Coast FA Cup final scheduled for tonight between SOA and Korhogo.
The successful deployment of VAR will make Ivory Coast the first country in West Africa to introduce the technology in its domestic league competition, marking a significant milestone for football development in the region.
Football authorities in the country believe the introduction of VAR will enhance the accuracy of officiating decisions and bring the Ivorian league in line with global standards.
