Violence Halts Judo at National Sports Festival After Athlete Losses Tooth

By Admin

The Judo competition at the ongoing National Sports Festival has been suspended until Tuesday morning after a violent incident disrupted proceedings, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The unrest began when officials from Team Lagos protested the outcome of a bout, alleging that their athlete had been unfairly denied a crucial point. The protest quickly escalated into a physical altercation after their demand for a post-match review was declined.

During the confrontation, Sodiq Akinlabi, an athlete from Lagos, was reportedly punched by a Jigawa official, resulting in the loss of a tooth.

In response to the violence and growing tension within the venue, event organizers suspended all remaining judo matches until Tuesday morning to allow for investigations and restore order.

Officials have yet to confirm whether disciplinary actions will be taken, but security around the judo arena has been visibly reinforced.
