Visa-Free Window Introduced By Uganda For AFCON 2027 Fans

The Government of Uganda has approved a temporary visa waiver for international visitors as part of efforts to boost tourism and fan participation ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The policy, confirmed by government spokesperson Dennis Mugimba, will allow visa-free entry into the country beginning one month before the tournament and extending until one month after its conclusion.

The initiative forms part of Uganda’s broader strategy to position itself as a key destination during the continental football showpiece, which it will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania under the “Pamoja EA 2027” banner.

Officials say the visa waiver is expected to ease travel arrangements for fans, tourists, and stakeholders, while boosting attendance at matches across host venues. Beyond football, authorities anticipate increased economic activity in sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and local commerce.

“This decision is intended to encourage more visitors to come to Uganda as part of the marketing and promotion of Destination Uganda,” Mugimba said.

The move also reflects Uganda’s ambition to leverage the tournament to showcase its cultural heritage, wildlife, and tourism potential to a global audience.

As preparations for Africa Cup of Nations 2027 continue, the visa waiver highlights the country’s commitment to hosting an inclusive and economically impactful competition, while using sport as a driver of regional integration and growth.
