Head coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s cricket team, Leke Oyede, has reduced his squad for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, dropping four players from the initial 22-woman list after a 14-day open camp in Benin City, Edo State, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The players omitted are U-19 World Cup wicketkeeper Deborah Bassey, Habibat Oremeyi, Ayomide Abdulrasaq, and Rukayat Abdulrasaq.

Following the cuts, 18 players will proceed to a closed-camping phase in Lagos starting Saturday, July 26, before releasing the final 15-player roster.

Nigeria will face Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, hosts Namibia, and two Division 2 qualifiers at the tournament, which runs from August 28 to September 7.

The ongoing Division 2 qualifiers in Botswana will conclude on July 26, with the top two teams advancing to Division 1.

The top two sides from the Africa Qualifiers will earn spots in the global qualifiers scheduled later this year. The 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will take place in England.
