WAFCON 2022 : Four observations from Nigeria's 2-0 win against Botswana

The Super Falcons bounced back from their defeat to South Africa by seeing off debutants Botswana 2-0 in their second Group C game at the ongoing WAFCON on Thursday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Goals in either half from Ifeoma Onumonu and substitute Christy Ucheibe secured the nine-time champions their first points of the tournament.

Here are some observations from the game.

 

Falcons Passes:

The Super Falcons dominated possession of the ball but their final balls left much to be desired. Most of the passes were not weighted, they ball eluded the targets as they were either over hit or intercepted by the Botswana defenders.

 

Falcons Bossed The Game Outrightly:

The Super Falcons were on top of their game against Botswana putting up a stunning performance in the encounter. The Nigeria Women's Team had 74 percent of the possession as they controlled the game with their brilliant play from defense to attack. This was one positive thing observed from the Super Falcons' performance today.

 

Botswana Went Physical:

The Botswana ladies resorted to kicking the more skillful Nigerian players when they faced the force of the Falcons on them.

The Botswana ladies chose to soak up the pressure from the Nigerian forward line and played most of the first half in their own half making it difficult to break them down

 

Defended Well To Keep A Clean Sheet:

The Super Falcons unlike in their previous game against South Africa were able to keep a clean sheet in today's match. Their defenders defended really well to prevent Botswana from getting a goal against them. Credits must also be given to the Chiamaka Nnadozie who made some key saves for the Super Falcons to stop Botswana's goalscoring opportunities.
