As the 2024 Women's African Cup of Nations approaches, Banyana Banyana captain Thembi Kgatlana is anticipating fierce competition from rival nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

South Africa claimed their first WAFCON title in 2022, defeating Morocco 2-1 in the final, and will now return to the same host nation to defend their crown.

Kgatlana, who plays for Tigres UANL in Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil, expects strong opposition when the tournament kicks off in July.

“I know it’s going to be challenging… As the reigning champions, South Africa will be a target for every team looking to prove themselves. It definitely adds to the excitement,” Kgatlana told ESPN.
