As the countdown to the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) begins, defending champions Banyana Banyana have ramped up their preparations for the tournament, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

South Africa clinched their maiden WAFCON title in the previous edition held in Morocco, defeating the host nation in a thrilling final.

Under the guidance of head coach Desiree Ellis, the team recently edged Botswana in a closely contested international friendly held last Wednesday, signalling their readiness to defend the crown.

On Saturday morning, Coach Ellis released a provisional 44-player squad set to begin training camp in the coming days.

South Africa, alongside heavyweights Nigeria and Morocco, are considered top contenders for this year's title.
