Ghana’s Parliamentary Minority has donated GH¢100,000 (approximately US$10,000) to the Black Queens in recognition of their bronze medal achievement at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The donation was presented on Tuesday during the team’s courtesy visit to Parliament as part of their nationwide victory tour. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who made the presentation on behalf of the caucus, described the gesture as a token of appreciation for the team’s remarkable performance.
The announcement drew bipartisan applause in Parliament, creating a rare moment of unity in the House.
This comes after the Black Queens’ triumphant return to Ghana on Monday, where they received a hero’s welcome at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Dressed in national colours and proudly showcasing their bronze medals, the players were greeted by cheering fans, waving flags, and traditional drumming.
