WAFCON 2024: I’m Ready To Dethrone Nnadozie – Algeria Goalkeeper N’Gazi

Algeria’s standout shot-stopper, Chloe N’Gazi, has boldly declared her intention to dethrone Super Falcons star Chiamaka Nnadozie as Africa’s top goalkeeper, following a stellar group-stage showing at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper kept three clean sheets in as many group matches, registering the highest number of saves in the tournament so far.

Her heroics earned her the accolade of Best Goalkeeper of the Group Stage, edging out Nigeria’s Nnadozie, the reigning African Goalkeeper of the Year.

Born in Meudon, France, N’Gazi has risen through the ranks at top French clubs including PSG, Issy, Fleury, Orléans, and Le Havre.

She now plies her trade with Olympique de Marseille. 

Despite enduring a difficult six-month spell without playing time last season, N’Gazi remained focused.

Her patience and persistence have now paid off in style, with her commanding displays helping Algeria make history in the group stage.

A defining moment came in Algeria’s goalless draw against Nigeria, where N’Gazi stood firm and outshone Nnadozie, who is widely considered Africa’s best.

“I know last year she (Chiamaka) won the Best Goalkeeper award in Africa,” N’Gazi said.

“She deserved it because she had a big season. But for me, I want to be the best goalkeeper in Africa.”

“We have to prove ourselves in big competitions like WAFCON. I’m really proud to be closing the gap on Chiamaka,” she added.
