WAFCON 2024: Republic of Benin keen on hosting tourney

Benin Republic has shown keen interest to host TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 with recent news and development from the country in a bid to submit a strong bid for the tournament, BSNSports.com.ng understand.


According to KICK442, Beninese Minister of Sports, Oswald Homeky met with the presidents of the Beninese football federations, Mathurin de Chacus, and Nigerian, Amaju Pinnick.


A meeting has already taken place in Cotonou under the direction of two federation presidents.


Subsequently, the Beninese Minister of Sports discussed this with his Nigerian counterpart.


This is a subject taken very seriously in the Republic of Benin.


Both countries have recently shown interest to co-host AFCON 2025 in case Guinea fails to meet up with hosting standard stipulated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).


Morocco recently hosted WAFCON 2022 where the Banyana Banyana of South Africa emerged as Champions.

Benin is the first nation that has shown interest in hosting WAFCON 2024.


President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick in a monitored Television interview this week also stated that Nigeria will bid to host WAFCON 2024.


Nigeria has previously hosted the WAFCON three times in 1998, 2002, and 2006.


Benin Republic has never hosted the WAFCON and is keen to host the next edition for the first time in the country’s history.
