Despite their semi-final exit at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, South Africa’s women’s national team has earned high praise from the President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Dr Danny Jordaan, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Banyana Banyana’s title defence ended following a narrow 2-1 defeat to arch-rivals Nigeria, who advanced to the final in pursuit of a record-extending 10th continental crown.

“Banyana Banyana fought very well, and it was a brave performance from the WAFCON defending champions,” Dr Jordaan said.

“You have established yourselves as one of the best teams on the continent. We fought bravely, and we are proud of your performance.”

He further commended the entire delegation, adding: “Well done to the whole team, Head of Delegation Thabile Msomi, coach Dr Desiree Ellis, captain Refiloe Jane, and all the players. We are proud of your efforts.”
