Banyana Banyana midfielder Gabriela Salgado has successfully undergone surgery following the serious injury she sustained in South Africa’s semi-final clash against Nigeria at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The midfielder was stretchered off after suffering a career-threatening injury during the tense encounter on Tuesday.

“Gabi sustained a fracture of the mid-shaft of her left leg during the fixture against Nigeria and underwent a successful surgery at the Mohamed VI University Hospital in Casablanca. She will be out of action for the rest of the year,” Banyana Banyana team doctor Dr. Lindi Mokoena confirmed via SAFA.

This latest setback comes as a huge blow for Salgado, who also missed the last edition of the tournament in Morocco due to injury.
