WAFCON 2024: Senegal Thrash DR Congo To Go Top of Group A
Sampson Adedeji
Senegal delivered a commanding performance to dismantle DR Congo 4-0 and climb to the summit of Group A at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
In sweltering conditions at the Mohammedia Stadium, the afternoon clash was effectively decided before the first-half cooling break, as Senegal raced into an unassailable lead.
Strikers Mama Diop and Ngeunar Ndiaye both bagged a brace, punishing a disorganised DR Congo defence that struggled to cope with Senegal's pace and power in attack.
All three of Senegal's opening goals came within the first 22 minutes, exploiting simple long balls behind the Congolese backline.
The second half saw fewer chances, with both sides striking the woodwork, but the Lionesses of Teranga comfortably saw out the game to secure their place at the top of the group standings.
