Nigeria’s Super Falcons maintained their place at the top of Group B following the conclusion of the first round of matches at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Algeria secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Botswana on Sunday, with Ghoutia Karchouni’s 10th-minute strike proving decisive for the North Africans.
The Algerians will face Tunisia in their second group match on July 10.
Tunisia had earlier suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at the hands of the dominant Super Falcons. Goals from Asisat Oshoala, Rinsola Babajide, and substitute Chiwendu Ihezuo sealed an impressive start for the nine-time African champions.
With three points and a superior goal difference, Nigeria lead the group ahead of Algeria, who also have three points.
Botswana sit in third place, while Tunisia remain bottom of the table.
