Nine-time African champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, are expected to land in Casablanca, Morocco, today (Wednesday) ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The tournament will run from July 5 to 26 across various cities in the North African country.
A group of seven players, including U.S.-based stars Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, and Deborah Abiodun, arrived in Casablanca on Tuesday.
Others in the early group are Chinwendu Ihezuo, Folashade Ijamilusi, Esther Okoronkwo, and new invitee Chioma Okafor.
Seventeen players were available to Coach Justin Madugu for Monday’s goalless friendly against Portugal.
The rest of the squad, who featured in that Portugal game, will travel from Lisbon to Casablanca today (Wednesday).
The Super Falcons will face arch-rivals Ghana’s Black Queens in another preparatory match on Sunday, June 29.
Nigeria will be aiming for a record-extending 10th continental title in Morocco, having dominated the competition with nine wins from 12 editions since the tournament's inception in 1998.
