WAFCON 2024: Super Falcons Top Group B Despite Stalemate with Algeria
Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured top spot in Group B of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) despite being held to a goalless draw by Algeria on Sunday night, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The final group match, played at the Larbi Zauoli Stadium, saw the Algerian side put up a resilient performance to earn a hard-fought point against the nine-time African champions.
Nigeria dominated possession and created several chances but were unable to break down a well-organized Algerian defence.
Head coach Justin Madugu made several second-half substitutions in a bid to change the game, but the breakthrough never came as the match ended 0-0.
With the result, Nigeria topped the group with 7 points, while Algeria finished second with 5 points to also advance to the knockout stage.
