South Africa’s senior women’s national team, Banyana Banyana, will take on Japan in two high-profile international friendlies this June as part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The matches form a crucial part of coach Desiree Ellis’ build-up plans, as her side continues to fine-tune strategies ahead of the continental showpiece.

The first encounter is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at the Nagai Ballgame Field, while the second match will take place on Tuesday, June 9, at J-Green Sakai.

Facing a top-tier side like Japan is expected to provide a stern test for the African champions, offering valuable experience against one of Asia’s most technically proficient teams.

Banyana Banyana will be aiming to use the friendlies to assess squad depth, build cohesion, and sharpen their competitive edge as they look to make a strong impact at WAFCON 2026.
