Malawi's women's national team, the Scorchers, have arrived in Morocco ahead of their historic debut at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will face Nigeria's Super Falcons in Group C, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Making their first appearance at the continental tournament, the Scorchers are determined to make a strong impression under the guidance of head coach Lovemore Fazili.
The squad features a blend of experienced players and promising young talents, with vice-captain Temwa Chawinga returning after missing the team's recent matches, providing a major boost to the side.
The 2023 COSAFA Women's Championship winners secured their maiden WAFCON qualification after defeating Angola on aggregate in the qualifiers, underlining their growing status in African women's football.
Malawi have been drawn in a challenging Group C alongside nine-time champions Nigeria, Egypt, and regional rivals Zambia, with the Scorchers hoping to spring a surprise against some of the continent's top teams.
