Nigerian match official Yemisi Akintoye has been appointed as the Fourth Official for the opening fixture of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) between Algeria and Senegal, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The appointment is another significant recognition for Nigerian officiating on the continental stage, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) entrusting Akintoye with a key role in the tournament's curtain-raiser.

As Fourth Official, Akintoye will assist the referee and the officiating team by overseeing technical area activities, managing substitutions, and ensuring the smooth conduct of the match.

Her selection highlights the growing reputation of Nigerian referees and officials in African football and underscores CAF's confidence in their competence for major international competitions.

The Algeria versus Senegal clash will officially kick off the 2026 WAFCON, with participating nations aiming to begin their campaigns on a positive note.
