WAFCON 2026: Senegal Lose Four Players Over Citizenship Clearance

Senegal's preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) have suffered a major setback after the team was ruled ineligible to field four players due to incomplete nationality documentation, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Lionesses will be without Mikaela Bottega, Mariama Deen Touré, Aminata Keïta, and Mady Soumaré after their naturalization processes were not completed before the deadline set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The quartet will therefore miss the continental showpiece, dealing a significant blow to Senegal's squad depth ahead of the tournament.

The absence of the four players is expected to force the Senegalese coaching crew to make adjustments to the squad as the team prepares to compete against Africa's top women's national teams at WAFCON 2026.
