In a dramatic turnaround, Swiss coach Nora Häuptle has been reinstated as head coach of Zambia’s Copper Queens for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Häuptle had resigned from her position in March after a series of unresolved disagreements with the Zambian football governing body, casting uncertainty over the team’s preparations for the continental tournament.

However, FAZ announced on Sunday that all outstanding issues between the parties have been resolved amicably following intensive high-level engagements led by FAZ president Keith Mweemba.

The Swiss tactician is now set to resume duties and guide the Copper Queens at WAFCON 2026.

The development is being viewed as a significant boost for Zambia, who will be among the contenders at the prestigious tournament.

The Copper Queens are drawn to face strong opposition, including Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Egypt, and Malawi in the group stage.

Häuptle’s return is expected to bring much-needed stability and continuity to the squad as they build on the steady progress Zambia’s women’s team has made on the African stage in recent years.

Football House expressed confidence that the experienced coach will hit the ground running to fine-tune the team ahead of the competition.
