Super Falcons have been conspicuously omitted from the CAF Team of the Tournament following the conclusion of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled its Best XI on Thursday, with newly crowned champions Cameroon dominating the selection with four players.

Malawi and Morocco contributed two players each, while Algeria also had two representatives. Zambia completed the line-up with one player.

The absence of any Nigerian player comes despite the Super Falcons reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.

Nigeria’s campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat to eventual champions Cameroon in the quarter-finals.

The Super Falcons subsequently suffered a 2-1 loss to South Africa in the playoff for a place in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup intercontinental playoffs.

The defeat also brought an end to Nigeria’s remarkable record of qualifying for every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup since the tournament’s inception in 1991.

Cameroon’s dominance of the Best XI reflects their impressive campaign, having secured their first-ever WAFCON title.

Goalkeeper Michaely Bihina was rewarded with the Golden Glove, while Monique Ngock was named the tournament’s best player.

Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga also enjoyed an outstanding tournament, finishing as joint-top scorer with five goals.

Despite Nigeria’s status as one of Africa’s most successful women’s football nations, no Super Falcons player made CAF’s official Team of the Tournament.
