Nigeria's Super Falcons stand to receive a record $2 million if they emerge champions of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The increased prize money was announced on Wednesday by Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe during the CAF Global Conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The new reward represents a significant boost in CAF's investment in women's football and provides additional motivation for the participating teams.
The Super Falcons head into the tournament as one of the favourites, having won the previous edition staged in Morocco.
Nigeria will be aiming to extend its dominance on the continent by lifting another WAFCON title.
Beyond the battle for the continental crown, the stakes are even higher, with the four semi-finalists securing automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The 2026 WAFCON is expected to feature Africa's top women's national teams as they compete for continental glory and a place on the global stage.
