WAFCON 2026 Postponement Has Boosted Our Preparation – South Africa Defender

WAFCON 2026 postponement has turned out to be beneficial for South Africa’s women’s national team, Banyana Banyana defender Mbane has said, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The tournament was initially scheduled for March/April but was later shifted to July by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), a decision Mbane believes has given the team more time to properly prepare.

According to her, Banyana Banyana were not fully ready when the original dates were announced, as the squad was still in pre-season and lacked sufficient preparation time.

“WAFCON was postponed but I think that was good for us as a team,” Mbane said.

 “I think we were not well prepared because remember we were in the pre-season, so we didn’t have enough time to prepare for the WAFCON.”

She added that the revised schedule has now provided the squad with an improved preparation window, including upcoming friendly matches that will help the team assess their readiness.

“So, I think with the new dates we have enough time to prepare for the WAFCON. 

"Also, these two friendlies will help us going into the WAFCON, so we can gauge how far we are as a team and where we need to improve,” she explained.
