WAFCON 2026 Set To Hold In July

The 2026 edition of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is set to be moved to July following uncertainty surrounding the initial schedule, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The tournament was originally scheduled to take place between March 17 and April 3 in Morocco, but preparations and organizational concerns have cast doubts over the competition starting as planned.

While the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has yet to make an official statement, reports indicate that the continental football body has internally decided to postpone the tournament.

According to emerging details, CAF is now considering staging the competition from July 25 to August 16, shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup scheduled to hold between June 11 and July 19.

An official announcement from CAF regarding the new dates is expected soon.

However, uncertainty still surrounds the host nation. 

On Wednesday, Gayton McKenzie, the Sports Minister of South Africa, increased pressure on Morocco by declaring that his country is ready to step in and host the tournament should Morocco decide to withdraw.
