WAFCON 2026 Under Threat As Moroccan Fans Campaign Against Hosting African Competitions

The 2026 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is facing uncertainty following a growing campaign by Moroccan football supporters calling for the country to withdraw from hosting African competitions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The protest is linked to the recent decisions of the CAF Disciplinary Committee over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal, which many Moroccan fans believe were unjust and biased against Morocco.

The rulings have sparked widespread outrage, with supporters accusing the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of setting a dangerous precedent that could encourage teams to walk out of matches without severe consequences.

As part of the backlash, sections of Moroccan fans have begun urging the Moroccan Football Federation and the government to reconsider Morocco’s role as a regular host of major CAF tournaments, including both men’s and women’s competitions.

In strong statements circulating on social media, protesters declared: “No future hosting of any African championships, for either men or women. Any national team that does not have a regulation-standard stadium will not play on Moroccan soil. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) must be explicitly informed that Morocco is no longer a convenient solution to its accumulated problems.”

They further added: “Any Moroccan team that experiences injustice in Egypt, Algeria, or any other African country must withdraw.”

The campaign has raised concerns over Morocco’s commitment to hosting future CAF events, with WAFCON 2026 now emerging as one of the competitions potentially affected by the unrest.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Moroccan Football Federation or CAF, but the growing agitation among fans is putting pressure on authorities and casting a shadow over Morocco’s status as a reliable host for African football tournaments
