WAFCON Trophy Is Nigeria Birthright - Gusau

President of NFF, Ibrahim Gusau has stated that the Women's African Nations Cup trophy is Nigeria's birthright, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

Nigeria is the most successful nation in the history of the tournament since it became full-scale in 1998, winning 11 of the 14 editions so far and making it to at least the semi-final in every tournament they have played. Though, Super Falcons finished fourth in the last edition, but Gusau is optimistic that the the country will reclaim the title in Morocco at the end of the 2025 WAFCON.

"Our projection for Super Falcons is that we are going to get back our trophy because as far as I am concerned, that trophy belong to Nigeria and that's why we are not taking any chance. He told BSN Sports.

" Every single FIFA window for the women we give them the opportunity to have a quality friendly matches. And there are two FIFA windows between now and when the WAFCON finals will hold. We will make sure that they play quality friendlies during those times too. We are also working on getting some home based players injected into the team. That is why we had two legged friendly matches with Algeria some months back and France national team. I could remember about six or seven home based players were injected into the team. And we are not going to relent on that efforts. We still try and make sure that we do what we need to do such that we don't rely only on foreign players. He concluded.
