Bayelsa Queens got their WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying campaign off to a flying start with a commanding 4-1 victory over Sampson Nelly on Saturday evening, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Nigerian champions showed their superiority from the blast of the whistle, dominating possession and creating chances at will.
Their relentless pressure paid off as they took the lead midway through the first half through a well-taken goal from Janet Akeromowei and Shakirat Moshood.
Sam Nelly briefly threatened a comeback, pulling a goal back to level matters via Kalu Favour, but Bayelsa Queens quickly regained control, restoring their advantage before the break.
In the second half, the Prosperity Girls stepped up the tempo, scoring twice via Janet and Alaba to seal an emphatic win and send a strong message to their rivals in the regional qualifiers.
The result means Bayelsa Queens top the group with a maximum of 9 points, as they aim to book another ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League finals later this year.
