The West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU-B) has officially launched its first Confederation of African Football (CAF) Young Referees Course of the year at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence, with top football administrators in attendance, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to develop and strengthen refereeing standards across the West African sub-region.
The course brings together selected young referees from member nations, providing them with technical training, modern officiating techniques, and exposure to international best practices.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, officials emphasized the importance of capacity building for match officials, noting that quality refereeing remains a critical component in the growth and credibility of football in the region.
The programme is expected to cover both theoretical and practical sessions, including fitness assessments, match simulations, and the application of the Laws of the Game.
Participants will also benefit from mentorship by experienced instructors and CAF-certified refereeing experts, with the aim of preparing them for future continental and international assignments.
The course is scheduled to run for several days, with successful participants expected to play key roles in upcoming WAFU-B competitions.
