WAFU B To Release 2026 Competition Calendar Soon — President

The President of the West Africa Football Union Zone B, Ibrahim Gusau, has confirmed that the regional body will soon make public its football events calendar for 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Gusau, who also serves as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), disclosed in an interview with BSN Sports that preparations are ongoing to finalise the schedule covering all age-grade competitions for both boys and girls within the WAFU B zone.

“We are working on the calendar of events for the various age-grade competitions in 2026. Once we conclude the process, it will be released to the public,” Gusau said.

The announcement comes ahead of a busy period for youth football across the continent. The 2026 edition of the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in Morocco from April 25 to May 15, 2026. The tournament will serve as Africa’s qualifying competition for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Qualification tournaments for the U-17 continental showpiece have been staged across CAF’s zonal unions — including WAFU B — as teams competed for places at the finals.

At the U-20 level, there will be no regional tournament in 2026, asas the next edition of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations is scheduled for 2027, following the biennial format. The most recent edition was held in Egypt from April 27 to May 18, 2025, serving as the qualification pathway for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Nigeria will not feature at the 2026 U-17 AFCON in Morocco after failing to secure qualification through the regional series.

The forthcoming WAFU B calendar is expected to provide clarity for member associations as they prepare their youth development programmes for the 2026 season.
