... NFF Collects Jerseys From Olympic Eagles Players For Costa Rica Match

When Nigeria face Costa Rica in an international friendly match on Thursday, the Super Eagles players will be dorning 'wash-and-wear' jerseys in San Jose.

It was alleged that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) retrieved the home and away jerseys from all Olympic Eagles players that were invited for Tanzania Second Round clash.

Ordinarily, when jerseys are used in an international match, it becomes the property of the player and the player can willingly exchange it with the opposing player.

Nigeria eliminated Tanzania 3-1 on aggregate in the Second Round of the CAF U23 African Nations Cup to book a final Round clash with Guinea. The first leg in Dar es Salam ended 1-1 before a 2-0 win at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan. Nigeria will face Guinea in March, 2023 with the first leg in Ibadan, Nigeria.

However, BSN Sports can authoritively reveal that the home and away jerseys used in the Second Round match against Tanzania have been submitted to the federation. In random interviews with three different players, they all talked with one voice, "they collected jerseys from us." They (NFF) told all players to submit the away and home jerseys.

When probed further, they said the NFF told them that the jerseys will be used for Nigeria versus Costa Rica international friendly match in Dan Jose on Thursday.

Salisu Yusuf, the Olympic Eagles head coach traveled to Costa Rica with 18 home based players ahead of Thursday's international friendly match with Costa Rica. Some of the players that made the list were part of the Olympic Eagles that prosecuted Tanzania game.

Reacting, the General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Sanusi Mohammed said he knows nothing about it.

"I don't know anything about NFF collecting jerseys back from U23 players." He told BSN Sports correspondence.

Deapite the contract being shrouded in secrecy, in August this year, globally-renown kit manufacturers, NIKE extended their contract agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation until December 2026. The contract agreement has not been made known to media and general public till now.

Immediate past President of NFF, Amaju Pinnick who signed the contract with NIKE has not revealed the details of the contract to the media.
