Wenger Reveals What Will Happen If CAS Awards AFCON Title To Senegal

Former Arsène Wenger has shared his thoughts on the ongoing controversy surrounding the African Cup of Nations title, stating the potential implications if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rules in favour of Senegal, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Senegal, who initially won the title on the pitch, were later stripped of the trophy by the Confederation of African Football Appeals Committee following an incident that saw their players walk off the pitch during the final.

 The decision subsequently awarded the title to Morocco.

However, the matter has now been taken to CAS, with a final verdict expected to determine the rightful champions.

Reacting to the situation, Wenger warned that overturning CAF’s ruling could set a dangerous precedent in football.

“If the Court of Arbitration for Sport awards the cup to Senegal, this will send a message to all national teams and clubs that they can go out for 18 minutes and then come back".

" This is pure nonsense and something that is completely unlikely. I think CAS will not deviate from the appeal ruling,” Wenger said.

The case continues to generate debate within the football community, with many stakeholders awaiting CAS’ final decision on one of the most controversial AFCON outcomes in recent history.
