Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, has described his appointment as the Deputy Chairperson of the FIFA Men’s National Teams Competitions Committee as a recognition of Nigeria’s growing influence in global sports, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, Pinnick expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying the appointment represents not only a personal achievement but also a milestone for Nigerian and African football.

“This appointment is a recognition of Nigeria and of global sports in general. I’m humbled by the opportunity,” Pinnick said.

“The Competitions Committee is the most important in FIFA because the organisation is all about competitions from the World Cup to the U-20, U-17, and even the Club World Cup.”

He explained that the committee is instrumental in shaping international football, overseeing the organisation and structure of FIFA tournaments worldwide.

Pinnick also noted the significance of Africa’s representation within the committee, mentioning the inclusion of other top administrators such as South Africa’s Danny Jordaan.

He further commended FIFA for maintaining a merit-driven selection process, stressing that appointments are based on professionalism and integrity rather than politics or regional interests.
