Wheelchair Tennis WC Ticket: Akindoju Hails Players, Promises Early Preparations

Engineer Ifedayo Akindoju, President of Nigeria Tennis Federation NTF has hailed the grit and commitment of the Team Nigeria Wheelchair Tennis players for their performance at the just concluded World Cup qualifiers held amongst seven countries at the MKO Abiola Tennis Centre, Abuja reports BSNSports.com.ng.
Akindoju who was full of joy following the qualification tickets secured by the ladies thanked them for a job well done and promised that the team will begin preparation for the World Cup finals held in Lisbon, Portugal on May 23rd.
Asked how he felt winning the tickets, He said he was extremely happy. This is the wish of Nigerians and it has come to pass. I especially thank the players, they gave their best and finally, we are going to be in Portugal.
"Am happy that we hosted the African qualifier for the first time and punched a ticket in the female category and progressed. It is all joy joy joy.
He said the players will go into camp session immediately and see if they can travel out earlier to acclimatise in Portugal adding that the Technical Crew would look at all the alternatives they have and will give them the best to work on.
The NTF President also disclosed that the male players will also be included in the World Cup party as they were looking forward to playing one or two tournaments in Portugal.
"It is going to be an all-inclusive thing. The male team is going with their female counterparts whether they get wild cards or not. We will be doing this to encourage them towards the Paralympics Games in Paris next year," Engineer Akindoju disclosed.
Kafayat Omisore, Chitura Nwaozuzu and Foluke Shodeinde punched the tickets for the female team while Alex Adewale, Wasiu Yusuf and Ukari Williams who beat the Moroccans in the doubles event lost the tickets in the singles.
