The reason Cardiff City left-back Jamilu Collins pulled out of Nigeria's Super Eagles team that will face Saudi Arabia and Mozambique has been revealed, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The skilful defender was among the players initially listed for the friendly games by the Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro but he was replaced by Portugal's based Chidozie Awaziem on Monday.

His club coach Erol Bulut has finally explained through a Welsh news outlet that Collins was withdrawn from the team as a protective measure.

"Maybe I have to talk with the national team manager because he [Collins] will get injured,” Bulut was quoted as saying.

“Neither side wants that. The club doesn’t need it, the national team doesn’t need it, we have to protect him", he told WalesOnline.

Collins missed a total number of 45 matches for the Bluebird last season due to injury.
