Why Final Super Eagles Final 28-man List Is Delayed - Official

By Our Reporter

The release of Nigeria’s final 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco has been delayed due to pressure from influential stakeholders.

A senior team official, who spoke on condition of anonymity with ScoreNigeria, said the delay stems from “powerful interests” lobbying for the inclusion of certain players in the final list.

“That is what has delayed the announcement of the final squad nothing more, nothing less,” the official told ScoreNigeria.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has already approved a 28-man roster for the tournament, which begins on December 21. Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set Thursday December 11 as the deadline for all participating teams to submit their final squads.

The Super Eagles’ list is now expected to be made public once internal deliberations are resolved.

Nigeria will face Tanzania on 23rd December in their group opener, then trade tackles with Tunisia on 27th before playing the last group game with Uganda on 30th December, 2025
