Why I Quit Sunshine Stars - Kennedy Boboye

Kennedy Boboye, the head coach of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) club Sunshine Stars, has resigned from his position.

Head coach of the Akure-based Club follows in the footsteps of former Super Eagles manager Finidi George who resigned his position with the national team earlier this year.

The announcement followed Sunshine Stars' painful 1-0 defeat away to Heartland of Owerri on Sunday, November 10th.

Boboye, a two-time Nigerian top-flight winner stated that the continuous interference from club management was behind his decision to resign his position.

He claims this has significantly hindered his ability to achieve his goals for the Akure-based team.

Boboye expressed disappointment over broken promises of autonomy, stating that his decision to resign was made five days before the game against Heartland.

"I want to inform you that I will be stepping down as Sunshine Stars coach after Sunday's NPFL match against Heartland. My decision is final, and I have no regrets about taking this step," Boboye told Flashscore.

"When I returned to this team, I was assured I'd have the freedom to make independent decisions, but that hasn't been the case," he revealed.

Boboye credited his ability to avoid relegation last season to his own efforts, despite the alleged lack of support from management.

Boboye alleged that club executives who lacked technical coaching experience began interfering with his job.

"This season, my role became increasingly difficult as club executives - who lack technical coaching experience - began overstepping by directing my backroom staff on player selection decisions," he stated.

He further highlighted the double standard he faced. "When Sunshine Stars lose, they are the first to assign blame. If I had faced this kind of interference at my previous clubs, I doubt I would have won the NPFL title twice," Boboye said.
