Why Lekjaa Decides To Step Down As Moroccan FA President

Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Faouzi Lekjaa is expected to step down from his position after more than a decade in charge as he shifts his focus to politics, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Lekjaa, who has served as president of the FRMF since 2014, is reportedly preparing to leave the role following an agreement to join the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM).

According to reports, the influential football administrator is expected to contest Morocco's parliamentary elections scheduled for September 23, 2026, as a candidate of the PAM party.

His anticipated departure would mark the end of a successful tenure during which Moroccan football recorded significant achievements on and off the pitch. 

Under his leadership, Morocco hosted major continental competitions, strengthened its football infrastructure, and gained global recognition following the Atlas Lions' historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. 

The country also secured the right to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

An official announcement regarding Lekjaa's resignation from the FRMF is still being awaited.
